Documenting my Home Lab

Home Lab · 2 min · Tommaso · November 2, 2026

A home lab is also a way to learn: services become everyday tools, and documentation helps explain how they connect.

From devices to services

The first version of the Home Lab page separates the physical rack from its software. Proxmox opens an inventory of services: UniFi Controller Old, Home Assistant, EMQX Server, Frigate, Plex, Zigbee2MQTT, UOS, Transmute and PairDrop.

A map in progress

The service list reflects the lab. Hardware, rack positions, resources and VM/CT assignments still need to be documented. Provisional details are clearly marked, so the diagram is not mistaken for a verified inventory.

What comes next

The map can grow to show service dependencies, shareable configurations and automations. Credentials, internal addresses and private settings are not needed to explain how the lab works.
